Thanks to a Fellowship from the Winston Churchill Trust I am off on a tango adventure to the USA and Argentina for almost 3 months! I will be doing research in order to write a book about the little known genre of tango violin! I will be attending courses, carrying out interviews, going to festivals, looking in archives, listening to concerts, cds .... the list is a long one. I will be writing up here all the interesting things I hear and wonderful people I meet on this musical quest. If you have any tango violin questions you would like me to ask the maestros I meet please send me a line. My list of questions is growing daily.... Tomorrow the first stop is to Ohio in the US to go on the Creative Strings Course with Christian Howes. A jazz violinist who specializes in teaching creative improvisation to those who are afraid of it (and those who love it too obviously!) Aside from learning more about improvising I'm hoping to get teaching ideas from him which I could apply to my tango workshops. Hasta luego! |
